Studio Classification

For the benefit of the industry as a whole, ESS is developing a system of classification for studios. Once generally accepted, this will make it much easier to compare rates between different facilities and choose appropriate facilities for recording projects, and from our point of view greatly simplify the process of extracting a technical brief when starting in on a design project. This will only ever happen if the classification system comes from within the industry itself, rather than having someone like us arbitrarily define and apply it.
So Email us telling us which group you think your studio is in, what you would need to do to it to get it into the next one up, whether there need to be more groups, and any other properties you think ought to be included in the definitions

At present, the categories are as follows:

A: World Class Commercial

B: General commercial

C: Private studios


NB The ± dB in these specs is not the variation in measurable overall response, but in the reverberant field level when taken separately from the direct sound level.
